Yun Suk’s Story – Level 1

My name is Yun Suk and I come from Korea, a small country in Asia. I love music. In Korea I played the violin in a small music group. I lived alone because my husband died many years ago and my daughter was in Australia. I decided to come to Australia when my daughter had a baby.

The first two months in Australia passed very quickly, because I was so happy to see my family again, but then I started to feel lonely – I had no friends to visit. I could read and write in English but I couldn’t speak very well so I started English classes at AMES. I go to my class in the evening, so I can look after my granddaughter. I am very happy because there are people from many different countries in the class and we learn English together. We have conversation for one hour every week. But my English class is only four hours a week. That’s not very much. So I study more English with the Distance Learning program. I do exercises at home and send them back to my teacher. She corrects the exercises and sends them back to me. I talk with my teacher on the telephone every two weeks.

Last month something very special happened to me. I got a part time job in a school. I teach music to young children. I am 63 years old and I have my first job!
