Enisa’s Story – Level 1
We arrived in Australia a year ago from Albania. We went to Shepparton, in north east Victoria, because there are a lot of Albanian people there. My husband and I work in the fruit canning factory. Shepparton is a very nice town and I like living in the country. In Albania I lived in a small town. I don’t like big cities.
When I arrived in Shepparton, the volunteer tutor from AMES came to visit me at home. She told me about some English classes at Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE. But I couldn’t go to classes because I was working at the canning factory all day. Then the volunteer tutor told me about Distance Learning. Distance Learning is for people who want to learn English, but can’t go to classes.
I learn English with the Distance Learning books and cassettes. I send the exercises to my teacher. My teacher corrects the exercises and she sends them back to me. I practise conversation with my teacher on the telephone.
Next year I‘ll work part time at the factory and I’ll go to English classes at Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE.
